Frank Gehry Cloud Hanging Lamp #34

Price: $600.00

When's the last time you played with paper cups? We ask because they are the inspiration behind this unusual, modernist cloud lamp, designed for Vitra by celebrated architect Frank Gehry. We don't know if all famous architects spend time taking apart and stapling together paper cups, but clearly they should. And no, the shade is not made of paper cups--for the lampshade Gehry developed a  “skin” made of polyester that feels and looks like fiber and is flexible, tear-resistant, easy to clean and fire-retardant. What else do you need to know about this lamp? Well, mostly that you can play, too. In true cloud-style, the shade can morph in the user’s hands, becoming a very round cumulus or a flatter stratus shape. Each sheet of the cloud lamp buttons to its neighbors with a simple snap. This lamp onsists of ten panels; a transparent polycarbonate ring is inserted into each lampshade and from it hangs a single light bulb.
