Thoughts on Democracy Portfolio Set I

Price: $7,500.00

This limited edition, signed, and numbered portfolio was produced as part of The Wolfsonian’s innovative 2008 exhibition, Thoughts on Democracy. Sixty renowned contemporary artists and designers created original posters in that express the ideals at the core of American democracy and respond to Norman Rockwell’s 1943 “Four Freedoms” paintings produced in response to Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s famous speech in which he envisioned a world “founded upon four essential human freedoms”—freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. The exhibition was conceived by Wolfsonian art director Tim Hossler and co-curated by Hossler; Marianne Lamonaca, associate director for curatorial affairs and education; and Steven Heller, co-chair of the MFA Designer as Author Department at the School of Visual Arts. Thoughts on Democracy has been on view in multiple venues and continues traveling nationally and internationally. It has spurred several additional projects including a curriculum for teens. Reproductions of all of the individual posters are available for sale.
Two limited edition portfolios were produced in sets of thirteen each as part of the project. Each features signed posters by selected artists. There is a discount for those interested in purchasing the two portfolios together, of $12,000.
